This is first in a series about our energy body that consists of Chakras. Chakra means “wheel” or “vortex”. We each have seven of them located along the spine, from the base up to the crown of your head. There is an additional one located slightly above the top of your head. Chakras are funnel-shaped, spin in a clockwise circle, and you have one on the front of you that draws in energy and one on the back that gives out energy. It is beneficial to you to keep them spinning and have a balance of flow in and out.
The first chakra is located at the base of your spine. It is called the Root Chakra. It vibrates to the color red in the light spectrum. A clear, functioning root chakra looks like a bright ruby, whereas, an unhealthy one looks dark and murky. Kind of like sludge.
The root chakra issues are related to physical security. If your thoughts are focused on your finances, career, home, possessions, or feeling safe and having your physical needs met, then you might have either a healthy or unhealthy root chakra. Not having enough is the domain of the root chakra. You can equate this to the first level of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. If you have troubles in these areas, then you might need to work on your belief system. Negative thoughts, feelings of lack, fear, feeling unsafe could be related to your beliefs. Addressing those issues is your first step. Practicing positive affirmations is helpful, because it trains your brain to accept the new belief. Since your energy spirals upwards, addressing Root Chakra issues will positively affect your other chakras.
The Root Chakra is also connected to physical portions of your body. Lower back, hips, knees, or feet in pain. Arthritis, bone problems, autoimmune disease can be manifestations of an unhealthy condition. Your mind and body are totally connected so treat your illnesses from a whole body approach.
It is also important to keep your chakras clean and spinning in a clockwise direction. A regular practice of meditation, with a focus on re-balancing your chakras, is the best method of keeping them healthy. Healthy chakras help you uplift your belief system too.
